James Monroe

As a statesman, lawyer, diplomat, and Founding Father, James Monroe served as the fifth president of the United States from 1817 to 1825. Monroe was the last president of the Virginia Dynasty, and his presidency happened during the Era of Good Feelings. He is well known for establishing the Monroe Doctrine, a foreign policy that strictly rejects European colonialism in the Americas. He was also the governor of Virginia, a U.S. congressman, envoy to France and Britain, Secretary of State, and Secretary of Defense.
