Chester A. Arthur
Chester Alan Arthur (October 5, 1829 – November 18, 1886) was a lawyer and politician who served as the United States’ 21st president from 1881 to 1885.
He was previously the 20th vice president, and when President James A. Garfield died in September 1881, two months after being shot by an assassin, he succeeded to the presidency.
