Franklin Pierce
Franklin Pierce was the 14th president of the United States, serving from 1853 to 1857. He was born on November 23, 1804 and died on October 8, 1869. He alienated anti-slavery activists by endorsing and signing the Kansas–Nebraska Act and implementing the Fugitive Slave Act, but these attempts failed to stop the North and South from battling. After the South seceded, the American Civil War broke out in 1861.
