Description

This print reproduces Albert Newsam’s 1846 lithograph of Andrew Jackson, published in Philadelphia by C. S. Williams and printed by P. S. Duval. The sheet belongs to Portraits of the Presidents. Jackson had died in 1845, the year before publication. Newsam’s oval bust follows the well-known painted types of the seventh president, a popular memorial print rather than a new sitting.

This is not Ralph E. W. Earl’s White House Collection oil of about 1835, and not Thomas Sully’s 1845 replica after his 1824 life study, both sold separately here. The 1846 Williams series placed Jackson among matching stones of Washington through the sitting president. Hand-colored impressions were sold as household pictures.

This listing is a contemporary reproduction of the historic print, not an original impression. Choose fine art paper, luster photo paper, or mounted canvas.
