Rutherford B. Hayes, Andrews

Price range: $14.00 through $131.90

Eliphalet Frazer Andrews’s oil of Rutherford B. Hayes, distinct from Huntington’s 1884 White House canvas.

SKU: PP1066 Categories: ,

Description

This print reproduces Eliphalet Frazer Andrews’s oil portrait of Rutherford B. Hayes. Andrews, who painted Andrew Johnson for the White House Collection in 1880, also made this separate Hayes likeness. It is a bust or half-length, not Daniel Huntington’s 1884 standing canvas in the mansion.

The White House Historical Association lists Huntington 1884, not Andrews, as the Collection portrait of Hayes. Andrews worked in Washington on public commissions. His Hayes is a painted studio type sold here as a different object from the Huntington full-length. Do not treat the two as one picture.

Hayes had left office in 1881. Andrews painted a later Washington studio likeness, a bust type beside Huntington standing canvas.

This listing is a contemporary print after the painting, not the original oil. Choose fine art paper, luster photo paper, or mounted canvas.
