Price range: $14.00 through $131.90

Jacques Reich’s 1905 etching of Abraham Lincoln, a later print after earlier likenesses.

SKU: PP1009 Categories: ,

Description

This print reproduces Jacques Reich’s 1905 etched portrait of Abraham Lincoln. Reich (1852 to 1923), a Hungarian-born printmaker working in New York, spent decades etching portraits of American statesmen, writers, and presidents. His Lincoln plates belong to that later series, not to a life sitting. Lincoln had been dead forty years when this sheet was dated.

Reich often worked from photographs and earlier paintings. New-York Historical Society holdings of his portrait prints include Lincoln among other presidents. The image sold here is a linear etching, a head-and-shoulders likeness in a dark coat, made for collectors of fine prints rather than as a White House commission. It is not Healy’s 1869 oil and not Gardner’s wartime photograph.

This listing is a contemporary reproduction of the historic print, not an original impression. Choose fine art paper, luster photo paper, or mounted canvas.
