This print reproduces a 1977 photograph of Jimmy Carter issued by the Department of Defense, Naval Photographic Center. NARA holds related files (including 558522). Carter appears in a dark suit as a head-and-shoulders, the camera likeness circulated at the start of the presidency. A separate White House staff photograph by Karl Schumacher, January 31, 1977, shows Carter beside a flag. The shop file names the Defense Department 1977 portrait.
The White House Collection oil listed by the White House Historical Association is Herbert E. Abrams’s 1982 canvas, sold separately here. That Abrams is not this listing. Carter took office on January 20, 1977. This print is the early photographic portrait, not the later mansion painting.
