Description

This print reproduces an 1840 lithograph of John Adams by Nathaniel Currier, issued in the series The Eight Presidents of the United States of America. The National Portrait Gallery catalogs that sheet as lithograph on paper, after Gilbert Stuart. Adams sits at a table with books and papers, a column and drape behind him.

Currier, then working under his own name in New York, made these portraits for a broad public years after Adams died in 1826. By 1840 there had been eight presidents, and Currier sold their likenesses as a matching set. The image is a popular print after Stuart’s painted likeness. It is not a life portrait by Currier, and it is not the Stuart oil.

This listing is a contemporary reproduction of the 1840 lithograph. Choose fine art paper, luster photo paper, or mounted canvas.
