Description

This print reproduces George P. A. Healy’s 1858 oil on canvas of John Quincy Adams, the White House Collection portrait cataloged by the White House Historical Association. Adams had died in 1848. Healy painted him for the 1857 congressional commission of living and recently living presidents, a standing canvas about 62 by 47 inches.

Adams is shown as the old man of the House, not as the president of 1825 to 1829. Healy worked from earlier studies. George Caleb Bingham’s 1850 oil, sold separately here, is another posthumous type and is not the White House picture. The White House Historical Association lists Healy 1858 as the Collection portrait of the sixth president.

This listing is a contemporary print after the painting, not the original oil. Choose fine art paper, luster photo paper, or mounted canvas.
