Description

This print reproduces George P. A. Healy’s 1859 oil of John Tyler, the smaller replica of the White House Collection portrait. The National Portrait Gallery catalogs it as NPG.70.23. In 1857 Congress commissioned Healy to paint presidents for the Executive Mansion. Two years later he painted this reduced copy of Tyler’s White House canvas.

Tyler is seated, elderly, in a dark coat. The White House standing-scale 1859 original is sold separately here. Do not treat the two as one object. NPG’s label states that Healy visited Tyler at his Virginia retirement home and that this picture is the smaller replica of the mansion portrait.

This listing is a contemporary print after the painting, not the original oil. Choose fine art paper, luster photo paper, or mounted canvas.
