Description

This print reproduces Albert Newsam’s 1846 lithograph of Martin Van Buren, published in Philadelphia by C. S. Williams and printed by P. S. Duval. Van Buren was still living, a former president and a possible candidate again. The oval bust belongs to the matching Portraits of the Presidents series. Newsam drew the stone after earlier painted likenesses, not from a White House sitting.

This is not George P. A. Healy’s 1858 White House Collection oil, painted later for the mansion and sold separately here. The 1846 lithograph is a popular print from Duval’s Philadelphia shop. Hand coloring was offered on some sheets. Companion presidents in the Williams set are listed in this shop.

This listing is a contemporary reproduction of the historic print, not an original impression. Choose fine art paper, luster photo paper, or mounted canvas.
