This print reproduces James Anthony Wills’s 1984 oil on panel of Richard Nixon, the White House Collection portrait cataloged by the White House Historical Association. Wills painted Nixon a decade after the resignation. The panel is about 46 by 35 inches.
Nixon sits in a dark suit, a late official-scale likeness rather than a 1969 sitting. Wills had already painted Dwight D. Eisenhower for the Collection in 1967. The White House Historical Association lists this 1984 Wills as the Collection picture of the thirty-seventh president. It is an oil after the presidency, not a White House photograph.
