Description
This print reproduces Jacques Reich’s 1919 etched portrait of Theodore Roosevelt. Roosevelt died on January 6, 1919. Reich’s plate belongs to that memorial year, a later etching in his long series of American heads. It is not a life sitting by Reich and not Sargent’s 1903 White House oil.
Reich had already etched Roosevelt around 1900. The 1919 sheet is a second, later plate. New-York Historical Society’s Reich collection includes Roosevelt among other presidents. The likeness is a linear head in a dark coat, made for print collectors after the former president was gone.
Roosevelt died at Sagamore Hill. The 1919 plate circulated as a memorial head for print collectors in the months after the funeral.
This listing is a contemporary reproduction of the historic print, not an original impression. Choose fine art paper, luster photo paper, or mounted canvas.
