Description
This print reproduces James Anthony Wills’s 1967 oil on panel of Dwight D. Eisenhower, the White House Collection portrait cataloged by the White House Historical Association. Wills painted Eisenhower after the presidency. The White House Historical Association notes that Eisenhower later preferred Wills among painters of his likeness.
The canvas shows Eisenhower in a civilian suit, not in Army uniform. Thomas E. Stephens also painted Eisenhower, and a Stephens portrait remains among White House additional pictures. The 1967 Wills panel, about 48 by 38 inches, is the portrait the Association lists in its presidential series. Harry Darby donated it to the collection in 1967.
