Description
This print reproduces Thomas Le Clear’s oil portrait of Ulysses S. Grant. Le Clear (1818 to 1882) painted Grant around 1881, after the presidency and near the end of both men’s lives. The White House holds a Le Clear Grant among additional portraits. Wikipedia’s White House art list dates it about 1881.
The White House Collection portrait in the Association’s presidential series is Henry Ulke’s 1875 oil, sold separately here. Le Clear’s type is a different sitting. Grant appears as a civilian, the former president rather than the 1860s general. Do not treat this canvas as the 1875 Ulke.
This listing is a contemporary print after the painting, not the original oil. Choose fine art paper, luster photo paper, or mounted canvas.
