Description
This print reproduces Albert Newsam’s 1846 lithograph of William Henry Harrison, published in Philadelphia by C. S. Williams and printed by P. S. Duval. Harrison had died on April 4, 1841, after a month in office. The 1846 series still included him among the presidents as an oval bust. Newsam drew the stone after campaign and painted types, including the aged general of 1840.
This is not James Reid Lambdin’s 1835 White House Collection oil, and not Albert Gallatin Hoit’s 1840 campaign canvas, both sold separately here. The Williams lithograph is a popular memorial print. Hand-colored impressions were sold five years after Harrison’s death as part of a uniform presidential set.
