Description
This print reproduces James Reid Lambdin’s 1858 oil portrait of Millard Fillmore. Lambdin (1807 to 1889), a Pittsburgh and Philadelphia painter, made many presidential likenesses. Fillmore sat or was recorded in this bust or half-length the year after Healy finished the White House full-length.
The White House Collection portrait is Healy’s 1857 standing canvas, sold separately here. Lambdin’s 1858 picture is a different object. Do not call it the mansion portrait. Lambdin also painted William Henry Harrison and other mid-century presidents. This listing follows the Lambdin type named and dated in the shop file.
Fillmore had left office in 1853. Lambdin recorded the former president as a private citizen, a bust rather than Healy standing state picture.
