This print reproduces David Hume Kennerly’s 1976 photograph of Gerald Ford seated in the Oval Office. Kennerly was chief White House photographer. The White House Historical Association catalogs a second official photographic portrait taken in the Oval Office on February 25, 1976 (some captions use February 26). Ford Library holdings also include an August 12, 1976 desk picture. The shop file is the seated Oval Office type from 1976.
This is a photograph, not Everett Raymond Kinstler’s 1977 oil in the White House Collection. The Association lists Kinstler 1977 as the Collection painting of the thirty-eighth president. Kennerly’s camera record belongs to the Ford Library and NARA. Ford had taken office on August 9, 1974, after Nixon’s resignation, and sat for this likeness in the election year 1976.
