Description
This print reproduces Jean-Baptiste Mauzaisse’s 1827 lithograph of John Adams, after Gilbert Stuart. The plate appeared in the Paris series Contemporains etrangers, lithographed by Charles Motte. Lettering reads Mauzaisse f. 1827. Harvard Art Museums and the Wellcome Collection hold impressions. The shop description mentions rice paper. Museum records describe a standard lithograph sheet, not a confirmed rice-paper exclusive.
Adams had died on July 4, 1826. Mauzaisse’s stone is a European memorial print after Stuart, not a life sitting. The companion American Kings lithograph by Nicolas Maurin, 1828, is sold separately here. This 1827 Paris plate is a different object from that Boston Pendleton stone.
