Description
This print reproduces Daniel Huntington’s 1884 oil on canvas of Rutherford B. Hayes, the White House Collection portrait cataloged by the White House Historical Association. The canvas is about 66 by 40 inches, a standing state picture. Huntington painted Hayes after the presidency.
Hayes stands in a dark coat in the grand manner. Huntington also painted Chester A. Arthur for the Collection in 1885. A separate oil by Eliphalet Frazer Andrews is sold separately here and is not the White House picture. The White House Historical Association lists Huntington 1884 as the Collection portrait of the nineteenth president.
