Description
This print reproduces a painted portrait of Theodore Roosevelt by Sigismund de Ivanowski. De Ivanowski (1874 to 1944), a Polish-born illustrator and painter working in the United States, made portraits and magazine pictures in the early twentieth century. The shop file dates the work 1908 to 1910, the end of the presidency and the African safari year.
Roosevelt appears as a civilian in a painted half-length, not in Rough Rider khaki and not in Sargent’s stair-newel pose. The picture is a studio oil or gouache of the period, not the White House Collection Sargent of 1903. That Sargent is sold separately here.
