Description
This print reproduces Edmund Hodgson Smart’s 1923 oil on canvas of Warren G. Harding, the White House Collection portrait cataloged by the White House Historical Association. Harding died in office on August 2, 1923. Smart’s canvas, about 58 by 38 inches, belongs to that year.
Harding sits in a dark suit, a formal likeness from the end of the presidency. Margaret Lindsay Williams also painted Harding in 1923. Her canvas is at the National Portrait Gallery and is sold separately here. The White House Historical Association lists Smart 1923 as the Collection portrait of the twenty-ninth president.
