August Benziger’s 1897 oil of William McKinley, painted the year McKinley took office.

SKU: PP1086 Categories: ,

Description

This print reproduces August Benziger’s 1897 oil portrait of William McKinley. Benziger (1867 to 1955), a Swiss-born painter, recorded McKinley at the start of the presidency. The National Portrait Gallery holds a Benziger McKinley. The sitter wears a dark coat, a formal bust from the inauguration year.

The White House Collection portrait listed by the White House Historical Association is Harriet Anderson Stubbs Murphy’s 1902 oil, painted after the assassination. That Murphy is sold separately here. Benziger’s 1897 canvas is a life picture from the first year in office, not the 1902 commemorative White House painting. The product name keeps the shop’s spelling Portait.

This listing is a contemporary print after the painting, not the original oil. Choose fine art paper, luster photo paper, or mounted canvas.
