Description

This print reproduces Joseph H. Bush’s oil on canvas of Zachary Taylor, about 1848, the White House Collection portrait cataloged by the White House Historical Association. The canvas is about 46 by 36 inches. Bush, a Kentucky painter trained under Thomas Sully, recorded Taylor as the incoming president. The Association’s photograph page calls this his official presidential portrait.

Taylor took office on March 4, 1849, and died on July 9, 1850. James Reid Lambdin’s 1848 campaign oil in uniform is at the National Portrait Gallery and is sold separately here. It is not the White House picture. Bush’s canvas is the Collection portrait of the twelfth president, a civilian state likeness rather than the battlefield general.

This listing is a contemporary print after the painting, not the original oil. Choose fine art paper, luster photo paper, or mounted canvas.
